Statement by the Afghanistan Women’s Organization for Equality in Support of Imprisoned Journalists in Afghanistan
The Afghanistan Women’s Organization for Equality expresses its deep concern over the continued detention of three journalists and calls for their immediate and unconditional release from Taliban custody.
These journalists Shakib Nazari, Hamid Farhadi, and Bashir Hatef have been detained for more than nine months without access to a transparent and fair judicial process.
Their continued detention is not only a clear violation of fundamental human rights, but also a serious attack on freedom of expression and media in Afghanistan.
The Afghanistan Women’s Organization for Equality emphasizes that journalism is not a crime. Silencing journalists means silencing the truth and depriving people of their right to access information.
In this regard, the organization calls on international human rights institutions, media freedom organizations, as well as journalists and civil society activists around the world to join this campaign and raise their voices for the release of these three journalists.
The Afghanistan Women’s Organization for Equality also urges the Taliban to respect their international human rights obligations and to release these journalists as soon as possible.
The release of journalists is an essential step toward preserving human dignity and ensuring a free future for media in Afghanistan.
In conclusion, the Afghanistan Women’s Organization for Equality affirms that this campaign will continue until the full release of these three journalists is achieved.
